Stone on Simon's Howe

When I began a hike at an unknown trailhead in Northern Yorkshire, England, I had no knowledge of what I would find at the top.  At the time, I merely wanted to get a walk in before sunset and was out of time to stick to my original agenda.  So I pulled off the road and started walking.  But what I found took my breath away.  Not just a breathtaking view of the local moorland with its immaculate heather, and not just a beautiful sunset, but a series of bronze age monuments marking the location and several barrows all several thousand years old.  The stone in this image is but one of several, but to touch with my own hands such history is something I will never forget, and to stand where others stood, to be in the presence of what to them was something precious and holy, equally so.
